Slip stitches are the shortest of all the crochet stitches. You can work in rows but as the fabric is so dense, it is only really suitable for finishing off bag handles.Having said that slip stitches are used when joining a new yarn or colour. 1. To start your piece make a foundation chain. Next insert the hook into the second chain, passing the hook under only one strand of the chain. Next wrap the yarn around the hook (yrh).
2. I like to hold the foundation chain in my left hand and tension the yarn with my right hand. But you can find your own way that works for you. Draw a loop back through the chain and through the loop on the hook.
3.Continue across the foundation chain, working a slip stitch into each chain to the end of the row. It is a good idea to work slip stitches loosely, just incase you need to work another row. This allows the crochet hook to pass through the stitch much easier.
4. If you need to make another row of slip stitches, begin with a chain one. This is called the turning chain.
5. When working more rows, work each stitch into the back loops only of the top of the stitches in the row below.
